Night Rating (NVFR) Training
The Night Rating (NVFR) allows pilots to conduct flights under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) at night and is an essential step for pilots progressing beyond daytime operations.
At Multifly, Night Rating training is delivered in accordance with EASA Part-FCL requirements, within an airport-based operational environment. The program can be completed as a standalone rating or as part of a modular pathway toward IR, CPL, and ATPL.
What Is the Night Rating?
The Night Rating extends a pilot’s privileges to include:
- VFR flight operations by night
- Night take-offs and landings
- Enhanced situational awareness and cockpit workload management
- A critical foundation for future instrument and commercial training
Night flying develops precision, discipline, and operational confidence under reduced visual conditions.
Training Structure
Night Rating training consists of a combination of theoretical instruction and practical flight training, as defined by EASA regulations.
Flight Training
- Minimum 5 flight hours
- At least 3 hours of dual instruction
- Minimum 1 hour of cross-country navigation
- 5 solo take-offs and landings at full-stop
Training is conducted on single-engine aircraft from the academy fleet.
Theoretical Instruction
- Night vision and visual illusions
- Human performance considerations at night
- Night navigation and meteorology
- Operational procedures and emergency planning
Typical Duration
Average duration: 1–2 weeks
Duration depends on weather conditions, aircraft availability, and student scheduling
With approximately 300 flyable days per year, Hungary offers favorable conditions for efficient night training completion.
Minimum Entry Requirements
License requirement: Valid EASA PPL(A)
Medical certificate: EASA Class 2 Medical Certificate
Flight experience: Completion of basic PPL flight training
English proficiency: Sufficient English for flight training and radio communication
What Is Included
The Night Rating training program includes all core elements required to complete the rating under EASA regulations.
- Night flight training in accordance with Part-FCL
- Use of academy aircraft and facilities
- Instructor supervision and training support
- Airport-based training environment
All training elements are delivered in a structured and transparent manner.
NVFR as Part of a Modular Training Pathway
Night Rating is a mandatory or strongly recommended prerequisite for several advanced licenses and ratings, including:
- Instrument Rating (IR)
- Commercial Pilot License (CPL)
- All-Inclusive 0 → ATPL Modular Training
Completing NVFR early in the training pathway ensures smoother progression into advanced phases.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is Night Rating mandatory for CPL or IR?
A: While not always mandatory at the initial stage, Night Rating is required for CPL issuance and is strongly recommended before instrument training.
Q: Can Night Rating be completed immediately after PPL?
A: Yes. NVFR is typically completed shortly after PPL training.
Q: Can international students apply for Night Rating training?
A: Yes, provided they hold a valid EASA PPL(A).
