Multi-Engine Instrument Rating (MEIR)

EASA-Approved SEIR to MEIR Upgrade Training in Hungary

The Multi-Engine Instrument Rating (MEIR) at Multifly is delivered as an upgrade training from an existing Single-Engine Instrument Rating (SEIR), in accordance with EASA Part-FCL requirements.

This focused upgrade allows pilots who already hold a valid SEIR and MEP class rating to extend their IFR privileges to multi-engine aircraft, completing the transition to professional multi-engine instrument operations.

At Multifly, the MEIR upgrade is conducted exclusively on a real, IR-certified multi-engine aircraft, ensuring direct exposure to real-world multi-engine IFR operations.

What Is the MEIR Upgrade?

The MEIR upgrade authorizes pilots to:

  • Operate multi-engine aircraft under IFR
  • Apply instrument procedures in multi-engine environments
  • Manage engine failures under instrument meteorological conditions
  • Meet the instrument rating requirements for CPL(A) issuance

Unlike initial instrument training, MEIR focuses on aircraft-specific and operational differences between single-engine and multi-engine IFR flying.

Training Structure

The MEIR training at Multifly is designed as a targeted upgrade course, building on existing SEIR knowledge and skills.

MEIR Upgrade Flight Training

Total flight time: 5 hours

Conducted entirely on a real, IR-certified multi-engine aircraft

Dual instruction focused on:

  • Multi-engine IFR procedures
  • Asymmetric flight under IFR
  • Engine failure management in IMC
  • Precision and non-precision approaches
  • Workload and decision-making in multi-engine IFR operations

No simulator time is required for the MEIR upgrade; all training is performed in the aircraft.

Training Aircraft

MEIR upgrade training is conducted on the academy’s multi-engine aircraft, including the Cessna 310, offering a high level of operational realism.

The aircraft’s performance characteristics provide meaningful exposure to:

  • Pronounced asymmetric thrust
  • Energy management in multi-engine IFR
  • Real-world engine-out scenarios under instrument conditions

This approach prepares pilots not only for the skill test, but also for professional multi-engine IFR operations.
